Meta Platforms will open its first physical store where shoppers can experience and purchase virtual reality headsets and other gadgets, as the company plans to develop its virtual space, the Metaverse.
The company announced on Monday that the Meta Store is scheduled to open on May 9 in a 1,550-square-foot space in Burlingame, California. The store will showcase the VR headset (Quest 2) and the video calling device (Portal), as well as smart glasses produced in collaboration with Ray-Ban.
The devices, except for the Ray-Ban glasses, will be available for purchase in the store. The company stated that products can also be bought online via a new shopping page on meta.com.
Meta is intensifying its investments in the Metaverse, a virtual space where people interact, work, and play, by adding new features to devices that serve as gateways to the virtual world. Earlier this month, Meta Platforms, the owner of Facebook, announced it would start testing tools to sell digital assets and experiences within its virtual reality platform, Horizon Worlds, which Meta launched late last year.
