Clarification from the Media Office of Minister Abdul-Samad Regarding COVID-19 Cases

The media office for Minister of Information in the caretaker government, Dr. Manal Abdul-Samad Najd, issued a statement to clarify misunderstandings regarding her remarks about COVID-19 cases during the launch of the electronic platform for the COVID-19 vaccine.

The National News Agency reported that the media office highlighted that Abdul-Samad's statement during the press conference today, which was held to launch the electronic platform for the COVID-19 vaccine, caused some confusion regarding COVID-19 cases. The media office's statement clarified that the minister said, "The percentage of COVID-19 cases among productive sectors is very high, as around 72% of COVID-19 cases are from the productive segments of society, namely those aged between 20 and 59 years, which indicates the seriousness of the epidemic.” It noted that she did not state that cases in productive sectors reached 72%.

The office emphasized that all information, figures, statistics, and charts are derived from the official website of the Ministry of Public Health, which are published on the dedicated COVID-19 page of the Ministry of Information website, available at: https://corona.ministryinfo.gov.lb.

The statement concluded by affirming Abdul-Samad's commitment to the accuracy and safety of information, and urging the media to be precise in relaying information during this sensitive time, making this clarification necessary.
