After a political freeze, a meeting took place between the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, and a delegation from Hezbollah that included the political aide to the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hussein Khalil, and the head of the coordination and liaison unit in the party, Wafiq Safa, lasting three hours. "Out of respect for confidentiality, we advise each other behind closed doors and not in the media," stated Hassan Khalil after the meeting.
Informed sources regarding the atmosphere of the meeting reported that "both parties were keen on not leaking the details of the meeting," but confirmed that "both sides presented their differing viewpoints and candidly expressed their concerns, especially regarding the presidential elections and government sessions."
The sources also informed the electronic newspaper "Al-Anbaa" that "the atmosphere was positive and good, to be followed up in future meetings. Although no agreement was reached on the main issues, the meeting itself represented a positive turning point in the relationship and the continuation of the Mar Mikhael understanding that both parties are keen to maintain."
Did the meeting break the ice between the two parties? Did it serve as a "supporting lever" for the "shaky" Mar Mikhael agreement?
