Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Ukrainian grain shipments passing through the Black Sea will be sent to any of the least developed countries. In a television interview regarding the agreement for shipping Ukrainian grain and the destination of those ships, he said, "The situation in Djibouti, Somalia, and Sudan is not good at all." He added, "We will ship to any of the least developed countries."
He announced the resumption of the grain shipping corridor from Ukrainian ports as it was before, just days after Russia suspended its involvement in the agreement. Russia had announced its return to the grain agreement after receiving written guarantees from Ukraine, thanks to Turkey's support and the involvement of the United Nations. On July 22, Istanbul witnessed the signing of the "Document of the Safe Shipping Initiative for Grains and Foodstuffs from Ukrainian Ports" between Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, and the United Nations.
