The Harmful Effects of Excessive Salt Consumption

The specialized journal Cell Metabolism published a study conducted at a German university, addressing the harms caused by increased salt consumption. Scientists found that excessive salt intake hinders the function of essential cells in the immune system. Participants in the human study who consumed six grams of salt daily demonstrated a weakened immune system and an increase in "sodium chloride" in the body, which can lead to an exaggerated immune response and misdirection of the body's defense mechanisms. The study revealed that "regulatory T cells," which are components of the immune system, work to reorganize the immune system after successfully eliminating an infection. It indicated that when this mechanism is disrupted, autoimmune diseases can develop, leading to inflammation and damage to tissues.
