Dealers indicated today, Wednesday, that "India has signed contracts to export approximately 500,000 tons of the new season's basmati rice crop, benefiting from strong demand from major buyers in Europe and the Middle East." India annually exports over four million tons of basmati rice, a premium long-grain rice variety known for its flavor, to Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the United States, and other countries. Europe is also a significant market for rice.
