An internal document showed that "the military council in Niger has ordered the armed forces to remain in a state of maximum alert," indicating an increasing threat of an impending attack. The document, widely circulated online on Saturday, stated that the order to remain in a state of maximum alert "will allow the forces to respond appropriately in the event of any attack and to generally avoid any surprises." It added that "the threats of aggression against the homeland have become increasingly palpable." A security source confirmed the authenticity of the document issued by the Chief of Staff yesterday, Friday.
