A delegation from the Lebanese Olympic Committee, represented by Vice President Assad Nakhal and retired Brigadier General Hassan Rostom, returned to Beirut from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, yesterday afternoon after participating in the extraordinary general assembly of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation, which took place on March 13 at the InterContinental Hotel. The assembly was inaugurated by the Federation's President, Minister of Sports, and Chairman of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committees, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, in the presence of notable Saudi sports figures and representatives from 55 out of 57 member countries.
The agenda included approving the report of the fifth solidarity session held in Konya, Turkey, in 2021, along with administrative and financial reports, amendments to the statutes, and the appointment of the Secretary-General of the Jordanian Olympic Committee, Nasser Al-Majali, as the Secretary-General of the Federation.
Additionally, a group of sports leaders who held administrative roles in previous periods was honored, including the late Major General Ahmed Al-Fooli, former Vice President of the Federation, Dr. Mohammed Saleh Qazdar, the former Secretary-General of the Federation, and Mohammed Saleh Al-Qurnass, also a former Secretary-General.
The Lebanese delegation held a constructive and fruitful meeting with Federation President Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, during which Nakhal and Rostom conveyed the greetings of the President of the Lebanese Olympic Committee, Pierre Jalakh, and the members of the Executive Committee. Various sports files and ways to enhance cooperation were discussed. Nakhal, on behalf of the Olympic Committee's President and members, invited Prince Al-Faisal to visit Lebanon, and the Saudi official promised to accept the invitation, commending the role and cooperation of the Lebanese Olympic Committee within the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation family.
