French President Emmanuel Macron stated today, Thursday, that the "violent acts that erupted across the country for the second consecutive day following the shooting death of a 17-year-old by police in a Paris suburb are unjustified." This was said at the beginning of an emergency meeting with senior government ministers, where Macron deemed the shooting of the young man as "unforgivable."
On another note, French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced today, Thursday, the arrest of 150 individuals following riots that occurred for the second night in a row across the country after the police shooting of a 17-year-old at a traffic checkpoint. The Interior Ministry reported that dozens of police officers were injured during the confrontations. Darmanin wrote on his Twitter account: "A night of unbearable violence against symbols of the Republic: municipal buildings, schools, and police stations were attacked or set on fire. 150 arrests."
In this context, a French prosecutor stated today that the police officer who killed the 17-year-old in a Paris suburb is under formal investigation for intentional homicide.
