European Union Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell indicated today, Wednesday, that he is "horrified" by the large number of casualties resulting from the Israeli bombardment of the Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza, and called on the warring parties to respect international war laws. He stated in a declaration: "Based on the clear position of the European Council that Israel has the right to defend itself in accordance with international humanitarian law, and to ensure the protection of all civilians, I am horrified by the high number of casualties following the Israeli bombardment of the Jabalia refugee camp." He added: "The laws of war and humanity must always apply, including when it comes to humanitarian assistance." With the unfolding tragedy in Gaza, the European Union has been calling since last week for humanitarian corridors and pauses for humanitarian needs.
