President Donald Trump has hinted at the possibility of targeting Iran's 'Axe Mountain', reaffirming his stance on preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons and anticipating the end of the conflict following the midterm elections.
During a speech in Dallas at a Republican conference focused on the midterm elections, Trump declared that the U.S. has control over the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting it be renamed 'Trump Strait'.
The President expressed that the conflict with Iran would 'end immediately after our victory in the upcoming elections', referring to the midterms.
Previously, on Wednesday, Trump hinted at the possibility of further strikes on Iran while emphasizing that Washington is currently not seeking a deal with Tehran, though he left the door open for negotiations.
Speaking to reporters before heading to Dallas, he stated: 'We are not looking for a deal' and added, 'I'm working on something bigger than the nuclear deal.'
When asked about the potential for negotiations with Iran, Trump acknowledged that it could happen.
Internal Administration Estimates
Trump's statements about the imminent end of the conflict come as U.S. reports suggest more cautious estimates within his administration.
The Wall Street Journal reported that senior White House advisors have cautioned Trump in closed discussions about the possibility of the conflict with Iran continuing through the end of his presidency.
According to the report, Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were among those who discussed with Trump the possibility that Tehran could continue to resist U.S. pressure, potentially prolonging the conflict.
