U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller confirmed on Monday the deaths of nine Americans in Israel during the ongoing violence. Miller stated in a statement: "We can also confirm that the fate of a number of (other) American citizens remains unknown, and we are working with our Israeli partners to determine their whereabouts." As Operation "Storm of Al-Aqsa" enters its third day, rocket fire on the Gaza Strip has not ceased. The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades announced a new barrage of rockets towards Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, "in response to the Israeli shelling," leading to a state of emergency being declared in Jerusalem and the areas of "Gush Dan" and "Sharon."
