Khouli After Meeting for Reconciliation: Lebanon Urgently Needs Arab Support

The General Coordinator of the National Campaign for the Return of Syrian Refugees, Captain Maroun Khouli, emphasized that "Lebanon urgently needs Arab support to ensure the swift, voluntary, and safe return of Syrian refugees to their homeland in Syria. This matter is not only in the interest of Lebanon but also for the entire region, including Syria, where it could create stability and positively impact regional security and stability. Thus, any neglect of the negative indicators of Syrian displacement and failure to address them by the Arab family will sequentially affect the entire regional and Arab situation."

Khouli's statements came after a visit he made, accompanied by a delegation from the campaign that included former Brigadier General Mohammad Sbaiti, Dr. Ali Baydoun, and Lieutenants Fred and Paul Zeitoun, to the Arab League headquarters in Beirut, where the delegation met with the head of the center, Ambassador Abdulrahman Al-Sulh.

In a statement, Khouli said, "After our important and constructive meeting with the ambassador, and since Lebanon is a founding member of the League, we strongly affirmed the necessity of international community support, especially from the Arab League for Lebanon during this difficult phase, as the country and its people are going through tough times due to the Syrian displacement crisis, which is a cause of the collapse of its economy, destruction of its infrastructure, and threats to its demographics, security, and environment."

He called on "the member states of the Arab League, through Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, to stand by Lebanon in this critical moment and provide the necessary support to help it overcome the challenges of Syrian displacement, which are dramatically impacting its course as a state and its institutions to restore its stability, prosperity, and security."
