Member of the Development and Liberation Bloc, MP Qassem Hachem, stated that the words of Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea regarding his willingness to agree on a consensual president are significant. However, the real bet relies on genuine goodwill. In a statement to "Al-Anbaa" newspaper, Hachem suggested that the positive preparations and communications leading up to the legislative session and the extension of the army chief could extend to discussions and preparations concerning the presidential elections. This notion was echoed by Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, who mentioned that with the start of the new year, efforts would intensify to end the vacancy in the presidential position.
He highlighted that current circumstances could positively contribute to resolving the presidential vacancy, stating, "The spirit of the legislative session, which concluded with the extension of the army chief, could serve as a valid model for the anticipated efforts that are set to begin after the holidays, particularly since the Lebanese situation can no longer tolerate delays or procrastination in overcoming the presidential crisis and restoring regularity to constitutional institutions. This will undoubtedly aid the efforts being prepared by President Berri."
