Hamdok: This is a Peace Opportunity We Must Not Miss

Former Sudanese Prime Minister and leader of the "Taqaddum" coalition, Abdullah Hamdok, renewed his call for the warring parties to put an end to the ongoing conflict in the country since mid-April of last year. Hamdok stated on his X platform account: "I have addressed the Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces (Abdel Fattah al-Burhan) to urge him to accept the request for a direct meeting with the Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces (Taqaddum), to seize the opportunity that has arisen to stop the war, as expressed in the Addis Ababa Declaration signed between Taqaddum and the Rapid Support Forces, in which the Rapid Support Forces showed their complete readiness for an unconditional cessation of hostilities through direct negotiations with the armed forces."

He added earlier on Thursday: "This opportunity for peace must not be wasted, and we must do our utmost to stop the war and build lasting peace in our beloved country. We extend our hands clean of wrongdoing to reach a peaceful negotiated solution and hope that the warring parties will respond so that we can alleviate the suffering of our people and build our nation on a new foundation, making April 15 the last war of Sudan, followed by lasting peace."
