China announced that it will defend its rights in the South China Sea, following a series of incidents with the Philippines recently in this disputed maritime area among several countries. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi noted during a press conference that in relation to maritime disputes, China has always shown great self-restraint. He added, "But certainly, we will not allow anyone to exploit our goodwill, nor will we accept distortion or intentional violation of maritime laws." The Philippine Coast Guard accused Chinese forces of causing two collision incidents on Tuesday between their ships, injuring four crew members of one vessel with water hoses during a supply mission in the South China Sea.
