U.S. Unemployment Claims at Lowest Level Since September 2022

The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell last week to its lowest level since late 2022, suggesting that job growth remains strong in January. The U.S. Department of Labor reported today, Thursday, that "first-time claims for unemployment benefits dropped by 16,000 to a seasonally adjusted level of 187,000 in the week ending January 13, marking the lowest level since September 2022." Economists surveyed by Reuters had anticipated that claims would total 207,000 last week.
