Beijing Criticizes Treatment of Chinese Citizens at Russian Border

The Chinese Embassy in Moscow has criticized the denial of entry to five Chinese citizens into Russia, stating that this treatment contradicts the generally friendly relations between the two countries. The embassy announced on Friday that the five Chinese nationals were barred from entering after a four-hour inspection process, and their visas were canceled. They were attempting to enter Russia from Kazakhstan at the end of last month.

Additionally, the embassy held a meeting with the Russian Foreign Ministry and border agencies, "clearly indicating that the harsh and excessive application of the law by Russia in this incident severely harmed the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens." The embassy also relayed comments from Russian officials who stated that Russia welcomes Chinese citizens and does not have discriminatory policies against them. They added that the destination in the visa applications of the five Chinese citizens did not match their actual destination.
