Setting a Date for Parliamentary Elections in Jordan

The official Jordanian television reported that King Abdullah II issued an order today, Wednesday, to hold elections for the House of Representatives. The Independent Election Commission has set September 10th as the date for the parliamentary elections. King Abdullah visited the Independent Election Commission today, where he met with the chairman and members of its Commission Council to review their preparations and readiness to manage and oversee the electoral process. He emphasized the "necessity of exerting efforts by the Commission Council and the Commission's staff to ensure the success of the electoral process and to work to prevent any violations with determination." The Jordanian monarch noted that "the country is at an important junction in the political modernization process, which marks the beginning of a new phase of party and programmatic parliamentary work."
