Warning from the Central Bank of Iraq Regarding Fake Dollar Purchase Operations

The Central Bank of Iraq issued a warning today, Wednesday, about fake dollar purchase operations. The bank stated in a press release, “Fake pages on social media bearing the names of licensed exchange companies are promoting dollar sales at the official rate through social media. Citizens enter the links of these fake companies to book an appointment to receive dollars for travelers.” It further clarified that “the fake pages provide victims with instructions and guidelines to deposit dinars.”

The Directorate of Non-Banking Financial Institutions Monitoring mentioned that “access to this type of service is through electronic booking on the official website of the company (if available), and the deposit must be made at the company’s office exclusively.”

The directorate warned those interested in purchasing dollars at the official rate to verify and ensure the authenticity of these licensed companies through the Central Bank's official site via the following link (https://cbi.iq/page/25), emphasizing that “legal actions will be taken against the owners of the fake pages of these companies.”
