Palestinian health officials announced today, Wednesday, that the only cancer treatment hospital in the Gaza Strip has stopped working due to a lack of fuel. The director of the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital, Sobhi Skeyk, said at a press conference, “The hospital, which primarily treats cancer patients, has ceased operations after running out of fuel.” He added, “We tell the world not to leave cancer patients to certain death due to the hospital's shutdown.”
Palestinian Minister of Health Mai Alkaila confirmed in a statement that the Turkish Friendship Hospital in Gaza had stopped operations due to being bombed by occupation forces yesterday and the day before, and the complete depletion of its fuel. She noted that this raises the total number of hospitals that have ceased operations in the region to 16 out of 35.
In her statement, she mentioned, “The lives of 70 cancer patients inside the hospital are at serious risk.” She further added, “The number of cancer patients in the Gaza Strip is about 2,000, living under catastrophic health conditions due to the ongoing Israeli aggression on the region and the displacement of a large number of people.”
