Lebanon's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Abdullah Bou Habib, during his meeting with 15 ambassadors and charge d'affaires from the countries that signed the joint statement regarding the Beirut port explosion at the Human Rights Council, emphasized the need to uncover the circumstances surrounding the port explosion. He stressed that responsibility lies with the Lebanese judiciary, which must carry out its duties according to the laws and procedures governing its work under the principle of separation of powers. He hopes that "matters will take the appropriate course, whether at the level of judicial institutions or the constitutional institutions of the state."
The ambassadors delivered a message to Minister Bou Habib, in which they urged the relevant Lebanese authorities to expedite the judicial investigations into the Beirut port explosion, in contrast to the slow progress observed to date, expressing their concern over the ongoing obstruction of these investigations.
Australian Ambassador to Lebanon, Andrew Barnes, tweeted: "Today I joined a joint effort with Foreign Minister Bou Habib to express Australia and 20 other nations' concerns that Lebanon’s investigation into the Beirut port explosion of 2020 is still stalled."
