Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, during his meeting with Turkish National Intelligence Organization President Ibrahim Kalin in Baghdad, emphasized the necessity of reaching an agreement with Turkey to address the water issue between the two countries. The media office of the Iraqi presidency stated, "His Excellency, President Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid received today, Monday, in the palace of Baghdad, the Turkish intelligence chief, Mr. Ibrahim Kalin, and his accompanying delegation."
The statement added, "The Iraqi president highlighted during the meeting the need for an agreement between the two sides to solve the water issue instead of the intermittent water releases by Turkey from time to time, expressing his hope for cooperation and mutual understanding regarding the actual water needs of Iraq and Turkey to meet basic requirements, as well as awareness of the nature of the projects taking place on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers."
For his part, Kalin confirmed Turkey's commitment to ensuring Iraq receives its water share, noting the existence of joint committees on this matter. He continued, stating, "We hope to work together to resolve this issue," mentioning that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan "looks forward to visiting Iraq, but his visit has been postponed due to the situation in Gaza."
