Iraq and Saudi Arabia Prepare for Security Talks for the First Time in 10 Years

Iraq and Saudi Arabia are preparing to hold extensive security talks for the first time in 10 years, aimed at enhancing security cooperation between the two countries and securing the shared border that spans more than 800 kilometers. These talks come after both sides signed a joint security agreement last year, which included security coordination regarding the common borders. According to the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, significant progress has been made in securing the international borders, and a meeting will soon be held between the leadership of the Iraqi and Saudi border forces to establish special agreements for border security. The ministry also announced the construction of a 170-kilometer concrete wall along the border with Syria, due to the presence of multiple parties controlling the Syrian side of the border. The issue of securing the Iraqi-Saudi border is considered one of the most important security issues that Riyadh seeks to reconcile with Iraq, especially with the presence of multiple armed factions along the border. Experts believe that the upcoming talks will contribute to enhancing security and stability along the shared border and help reduce smuggling operations and organized crime.
