The Judge and the Forces... Legal Actions and Rising Tensions

After the investigating judge in Mount Lebanon, Nicolas Mansour, scheduled a session for Thursday, March 23, to hear from MP Ziad Hawat regarding the complaint filed by the Attorney General of Appeal in Mount Lebanon, Judge Ghada Aoun, members of the Lebanese Forces party and its leader Samir Geagea launched an attack on Judge Aoun with statements in support of their colleague in the bloc.

Initially, Geagea issued a statement indicating that "what happened with Judge Aoun's accusation against MP Hawat is the pinnacle of exceeding the law, and therefore, we as the Lebanese Forces party and the Strong Republic bloc will do everything possible to save the law from those who were originally assigned the duty to apply and preserve it."

Additionally, MP Melhem Riachy directed a tweet to MP Hawat, saying: "My brother Ziad, don't worry, don't respond, don't care, and most importantly... don't go! They are bound to leave."

In response, Judge Ghada Aoun tweeted: "Some people are still not used to the logic of the state and the law; they still live in the militia logic, which is why they are astounded that when a judge is slandered, he resorts to the law and claims defense of his dignity." She added, "I hope that someday you will understand that people have dignities and that the judiciary has a sanctity and splendor that cannot be trampled so easily."

It is noted that Judge Aoun had filed a complaint against MP Hawat for defamation, slander, and threatening a judge, based on statements made by Hawat on LBCI, where he mentioned that "the entire banking system cannot remain at the mercy of a judge's whims," affirming his "support for investigations into the banks by a fair and impartial judiciary."
