Germany has won the U17 World Cup for the first time in its history, defeating France 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regular time on Saturday in Surakarta, Indonesia. Germany took the lead with two goals from Paris Brunner "from a penalty," courtesy of Noah and Darwish in the 29th and 51st minutes, before France reduced the deficit through Simon Bouabré (53). Germany finished the match with ten players after Winers Osawi was sent off (69), allowing the French to equalize in the final minutes via Mathis Amogu (85). In the penalty shootout, France missed three attempts, thanks to the stellar performance of goalkeeper Konstantin Haide, while Germany missed two penalties. This final match was a repeat of the U17 European Championship final held on June 2, when Germany also emerged victorious with a 5-4 win on penalties after a 0-0 draw in Budapest. This world title is Germany's first, having reached the final of the inaugural edition in 1985, finishing third in 2007 and 2011, and fourth in 1997. France, on the other hand, failed to add to its second title after 2001, when they defeated Nigeria 3-0.
