Death threats against Avigdor Lieberman, leader of the 'Israel Beiteinu' party and Knesset member, have escalated on social media recently. These threats now include calls for physical harm against him and his family, according to a report by the Hebrew newspaper 'Maariv'.
The report described online posts and comments wishing death upon Lieberman and his children, alongside direct threats and insults aimed at his wife. His party has labeled this trend as a rise in the level of targeted rhetoric.
'Maariv' cited examples of messages saying Lieberman and his children deserve "death with suffering," and other posts expressing hope for his demise and severe insults directed at him and his wife.
The 'Israel Beiteinu' party indicated that some threats were seemingly from accounts claiming allegiance to the Likud Party. However, it emphasized that no independent verification of these accounts' identities or proof of an organized threat has been established.
This surge in threats follows similar ones about a month ago, which included direct calls for his assassination and warnings that his life was in danger.
Following these threats, a complaint was filed with the Knesset officer, along with prior reports to law enforcement agencies.
The 'Israel Beiteinu' party confirmed that dozens of threats have accumulated against Lieberman recently. They have been documented and forwarded to the appropriate authorities for investigation and legal action.
The party highlighted not only an increase in the number of threatening posts but also a notable rise in their severity, including direct death and physical harm threats involving Lieberman's family members.
As of now, Israeli authorities have not announced any arrests related to this recent wave, nor is it clear whether a separate criminal investigation has been launched. It is up to the authorities to determine if these posts constitute criminal offenses.
The threats coincided with controversial remarks made by Hasidic singer Mordechai Ben David earlier this month. During a Yiddish-language program, he made a statement referencing "beheading" Lieberman.
The 'Israel Beiteinu' party interpreted these remarks as incitement to murder their leader amid ongoing debates over the limits of political discourse and the threats facing public figures in Israel.
This isn't the first time Lieberman has reported threats against him. In September 2025, he filed a police complaint after receiving a threatening message, followed by another complaint two months later over a message containing direct insults and threats.
