The caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and his wife attended the musical dance performance "Phoenicia" by the Karakla troupe on Thursday evening at the "Ivory" theater in Sin el Fil. Mikati was received by artist Abdel Halim Karakla and the Minister of Culture Mohamed Wissam Al-Mortada along with his wife.
Mikati praised Abdel Halim Karakla and the Karakla troupe for their "outstanding work that presented a vivid image of Lebanon," considering that "the return of the Karakla troupe and the audience's interaction with the play is clear evidence that the will to live and uplift the nation is stronger than all the calamities it faces."
Mikati noted that "the Lebanese once again present the most beautiful image of the beauty of their homeland and continuous creativity on all levels." For his part, director Ivan Karakla explained, "It is a musical dance play that combines our past history with our present history," pointing out that "we have entered into Phoenician history; this part is called the history of Phoenicia in the past. In our present history, we are entering into the history of our ancestors, our folk customs, traditions, and Lebanese theater."
The first part of the work recalls Karakla's previous performances based solely on dance, devoid of dialogue and musical scenes, while the second part portrays the scenery of the Lebanese village and its concerns. After a forced hiatus of nearly five years, the Karakla theater returned to the spotlight with the play "Phoenicia Yesterday and Today," offering a renewed experience of enjoyment and joy in the world of music.
