Seized Counterfeit Weight Loss Injections in Jordan

Health authorities in Jordan have seized 21 counterfeit injections marketed for "weight loss" that were being promoted online through social media in the country. They were brought in by a traveler arriving in Jordan. The Director General of the Jordan Food and Drug Administration, Dr. Nizar Mohaydat, stated in remarks to Al-Mamlaka TV that there is an exploitation of the increasing demand for weight loss injections by promoting counterfeit products. He confirmed that the agency is continuing to search for illegal injections in the market, indicating that he does not expect a large amount of counterfeit injections to enter Jordan. Mohaydah mentioned that the drug "Ozempic" has been licensed in Jordan for two years to treat insulin-resistant diabetes cases. The World Health Organization has warned about counterfeit diabetes medications being circulated since 2022, a problem impacting worldwide. The organization noted discoveries in the UK, the United States, and Brazil since October 2023.
