The UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi condemned the ongoing Israeli incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Qudsi Al-Sharif, the latest of which involved the intrusion of an extremist Israeli minister, members of the Knesset, and extremists today, Wednesday, under the protection of Israeli police.
During a phone call, the two ministers denounced the Israeli government's allowance of the so-called "March of Flags" in occupied Jerusalem, along with the accompanying aggression against Palestinians, extremist racist practices, and the imposition of restrictions on worshippers' access to Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as the limitation of worshippers' movement in the Old City of Jerusalem.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed and Minister Safadi emphasized the necessity for Israel, as the occupying power, to adhere to its legal obligations and to cease its illegal measures that undermine the opportunities for achieving a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
The ministers also affirmed that Al-Aqsa Mosque, with its total area of 144 dunams, is a solely religious site for Muslims, and emphasized the need for Israel to respect the existing historical and legal status of Islamic and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan highlighted the significance of the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem and praised its role in preserving the identity of these Arab Islamic and Christian sanctities, according to "WAM."
