Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Abdullah Bou Habib emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region amid escalating tensions in southern Lebanon and the Middle East. In an exclusive interview with "The Monitor" during his visit to Washington, Bou Habib stressed the necessity of dialogue and de-escalation, noting that "the security of southern Lebanon depends on the full and comprehensive implementation of Resolution 1701, as well as the support of the Lebanese army, and subsequently on reaching a final agreement on the southern borders."
Regarding recent events, Bou Habib expressed deep concern over the potential consequences of any future escalation, warning that a slide into war would have dire repercussions not only for Lebanon and Israel but also for neighboring countries. He added that an Israeli invasion of Lebanon, if it were to happen, could provoke a regional war involving external parties. Thus, he underscored the imperative for all parties to prioritize dialogue and peaceful solutions.
He highlighted ongoing international diplomatic efforts, including those led by international partners, aimed at easing tensions and enhancing stability along the southern Lebanese border. Bou Habib reaffirmed Lebanon's commitment to initiatives that promote regional peace and security and reiterated Lebanon's readiness to constructively participate in international efforts to prevent conflict and achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.
