The Ukrainian Air Force announced today, Monday, that it shot down 29 out of 35 drones and 37 out of 40 cruise missiles launched by Russia overnight. The Air Force stated on its Telegram channel: "Russia targeted military facilities and critical infrastructure." Russia launched a new wave of airstrikes on Kyiv in the early hours of Monday morning, using drones and cruise missiles, with the military administration of the Ukrainian capital reporting that "defense forces shot down over 40 targets."
Officials confirmed that no significant damage or injuries occurred in Kyiv, marking the 15th airstrike by Russia on the city since the beginning of May and the second consecutive overnight assault with the same intensity. Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat noted, "The enemy initially used ballistic missiles like Iskander, and S-300 and S-400 missiles may also have been used." Kyiv's Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram: "Another difficult night for the capital."
The city's military administration revealed that today’s attack employed a mix of Iranian-made "Shahed" drones and cruise missiles. The head of the city’s military administration, Serhiy Popko, stated on Telegram: "With these ongoing attacks, the enemy seeks to keep the civilian population in a state of deep psychological stress."
In the Odesa region, the Ukrainian army reported that a Russian drone attack caused damage to some infrastructure facilities at the Odesa port on the Black Sea, a key port for grain exports. The southern command stated on Facebook: "A fire broke out in Odesa’s port infrastructure as a result of the strike. It was quickly extinguished. Information regarding the extent of the damage is being updated." The army did not specify whether the damage to the port affected grain exports. The ports in the Odesa area are where Ukraine exports grains and other foodstuffs under an initiative to continue exports from there.
In Khmelnytskyi, western Ukraine, the regional governor indicated that "Russia bombed a military target in the area during the airstrikes, and rescue teams are still battling the fires caused by the bombardment." The governor’s office reported on Telegram that "efforts are currently ongoing to contain the fires raging in fuel storage, lubricants, and munitions facilities." Witnesses told Reuters that they heard several explosions as the city and all of Ukraine were under air raid alerts early in the morning.
This attack follows the largest barrage of drones launched on Kyiv the previous night, resulting in one death and several injuries. In yesterday’s attack, 36 drones were shot down over Kyiv.
