Court Requests Lifting Immunity from MP for Insulting the Popular Mobilization Forces

The Presidency of the Wasit Appeals Court has requested the Iraqi Parliament to lift the immunity of MP Sajad Salim Hussein on charges of insulting the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF). According to the request, signed by Chief Prosecutor Judge Najm Abdullah Ahmed, the charge against MP Hussein is under the provisions of Article (433/A) of the Penal Code "for insulting the Popular Mobilization Forces and accusing its leadership of committing murder via social media." The court called on the Parliament to consider the request to lift the immunity from the accused according to the provisions of Article (63 Second) of the Constitution and the provisions of Article (11/Second/4) of the Penal Code, as amended by Law No. 10 of 2024. Previously, the PMF had filed a lawsuit against independent MP Sajad Salim.
