Egypt Aims to Increase Agricultural Product Exports

Egypt intends to increase its fresh agricultural product exports by 15% this year, reaching a value of $4.2 billion, according to Saad Moussa, the supervisor of Egyptian agricultural quarantine and external agricultural relations. In 2023, Egypt exported agricultural products worth $8.8 billion, including $3.7 billion in fresh products, which constitutes 24.5% of Egypt's total commodity exports, amounting to $35.6 billion. Moussa stated that "global conditions support the increase of Egyptian agricultural exports this year."

Egyptian agricultural exports rose by 27% year-on-year in the first half of 2024, reaching $2.8 billion, with export volumes exceeding 4.8 million tons, an increase of 220,000 tons compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation. Egypt is preparing to resume onion exports in the coming days, following increased production and supply during the current season, according to four informed government officials.

This target coincides with a government plan to increase cultivated land area, as part of the new government's work program announced yesterday, Wednesday. The document indicates that Egypt aims to increase the cultivated area to 11 million feddans in the fiscal year 2026-2027, up from levels in the current fiscal year, which reached about 10 million feddans. The country also aims to increase the self-sufficiency rate of wheat in the fiscal year 2026-2027 to 53%, up from 49% in the current fiscal year.
