Ongoing Clashes in Sudan… Storming of the Kuwaiti Embassy

Clashes have renewed in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, between the army and the Rapid Support Forces as the confrontation between the two sides enters its second month. Meanwhile, clashes between the Rapid Support Forces and armed groups in the city of Geneina, the capital of West Darfur state, resulted in nearly 200 casualties over two days.

Residents in Khartoum reported that airstrikes and artillery shelling intensified in the capital on Tuesday, as the army seeks to expel the semi-military Rapid Support Forces it has been fighting for over a month. Witnesses stated that they heard the sounds of airstrikes, gunfire, and explosions south of Khartoum, with heavy shelling during the night in parts of the neighboring cities of Bahri and Omdurman.

Regarding the Kuwaiti embassy in Khartoum, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry announced on Monday evening that the residence of the head of the military office at its embassy had been stormed and vandalized. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Kuwait's "condemnation and denunciation of the attack on the residence of the head of the military office and all forms of violence and vandalism." The ministry described the attack as a "flagrant violation of all international norms and rules of international law and the Vienna Convention." The ministry reiterated its call for the official authorities and all relevant parties in Sudan to "swiftly take measures to ensure the full protection of diplomatic mission premises and punish the perpetrators."

Earlier, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry revealed that its embassy in Khartoum had also been stormed and vandalized. This comes as Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the head of the Sovereign Council and army leader, continues to dismiss several officials, while Rapid Support Forces leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as "Hemedti," accused him of destroying Sudan, calling on his forces to hold their ground.

### Jeddah Talks

Fighting has intensified in Khartoum and Geneina since the warring parties began talks in Jeddah, mediated by Saudi Arabia and the United States over a week ago. The talks have led to a declaration of principles aimed at facilitating aid access and protecting civilians; however, mechanisms for establishing humanitarian corridors and agreeing on a ceasefire are still under discussion.

The army primarily relies on airstrikes and shelling, engaging in ground confrontations only rarely as it seeks to expel the Rapid Support Forces, which have spread through neighborhoods in Khartoum shortly after the fighting broke out. According to residents and witnesses, the Rapid Support Forces attacked key military bases in northern Omdurman and southern Khartoum on Tuesday, seemingly to prevent the army from deploying heavy weapons and fighter jets. Sudan is witnessing violent clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, concentrated in the capital, Khartoum.
