The Iraqi authorities have revealed new details in the case of the famous blogger "Um Al-Loul," who was sentenced to life in prison "for her involvement in drug trafficking." Hussein Yusuf Al-Tamimi, the official spokesperson for the General Directorate for Drug Affairs, provided clarification regarding the case of "Um Al-Loul," stating: "The accused (Q. W.) was previously arrested at the beginning of 2023 under the provisions of Article (28) of the Drugs Law. He works in beauty centers in Erbil and Baghdad, in the Lebanese Village, after coming from Erbil to Baghdad, where he was caught in the act with 1 kilogram of crystal meth in his possession."
He explained that "he was also found in possession of an ID card and passport in the name of the accused (Hadeel Khalid Abdul) and admitted that she, along with another accused named (A. M. M.), transported drugs from Erbil to Baghdad with him during 2021-2022, using various and innovative methods."
Al-Tamimi added: "An arrest warrant was issued against both of them under the provisions of Article (28) of the Drugs Law, at that time, and the criminal (Q. W.) was sentenced to life imprisonment by the court." He noted that "the accused (Hadeel Khalid Abdul) had been sentenced to 4 months for a case related to low-content material, which is lodged in the women’s prison of the Iraqi Rehabilitation Directorate," adding that "upon reviewing the warrant, it became clear that she is wanted under Article (28) of the Drugs Law, in a case filed with the General Directorate for Drug Affairs related to the sentenced (Q. W.)."
Al-Tamimi continued that it became apparent that the wanted person "is nicknamed (Um Al-Loul), who had not been previously identified due to a discrepancy between her photo in the ID card and her actual appearance." He stated: "Legal measures were taken against her, and she was presented before the competent court, and after facing the evidence collected against her, she explicitly confessed to her crime, and she was referred to the court that sentenced her to life in prison under Article (28) of the Drugs Law."
The spokesperson mentioned that "another investigative case has been opened against 'Um Al-Loul' in Erbil concerning drug use, which is separate from the case that led to her life sentence under Article (28) of the Drugs Law." The Rusafa Criminal Court had previously issued a life sentence against one of the social media celebrities, Hadeel Khalid Abdul Rashid, nicknamed "Um Al-Loul," after she was convicted of drug trafficking.
