The U.S. Central Command announced today, Thursday, the destruction of two drones, a ground control station, and three anti-ship cruise missiles belonging to the Iranian-backed Houthi group in areas they control in Yemen. They stated via "X" that these weapons posed a clear and imminent threat to U.S. forces, coalition forces, and commercial ships in the region. Since November, the Houthi group, allied with Iran, has been launching attacks on international shipping near Yemen in solidarity with the Palestinians in the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas). Houthi attacks have led the United States and the United Kingdom to carry out retaliatory strikes and disrupted global trade, prompting ship owners to alter their shipping routes away from the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, taking a longer route around the southern tip of Africa.
