"The Nukhudah and Al-Durra: Will They Ignite a New Dispute Between Iraq and Kuwait?"

Iraqi MP Saud Al-Saadi, head of the Rights parliamentary bloc, directed a number of parliamentary questions to Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani. In a statement, Al-Saadi mentioned that "the news circulating on social media regarding the neighboring Kuwait discovering a new oil field east of Failaka Island in Iraq's economic waters, referred to as the Nukhudah Field, raises concerns. We ask about the measures taken by the Ministry of Oil to assert Iraq's rights over oil discoveries in its territorial waters, including the newly discovered field. Has the neighboring Kuwait unilaterally appropriated these economic areas from Iraq following Amirial decision (317) in 2014, which contributed to swallowing Iraq's economic waters?"

Al-Saadi urged the Oil Minister to clarify the ownership of the Al-Durra oil field, located in regional waters within the shared maritime borders, and whether this field belongs to Iraq or Kuwait. He also inquired whether the Ministry of Oil possesses a photocopy of the Kuwaiti Amirial decision number (314) from 2014, which pertains to the Al-Durra oil field, as it directly affects Iraq's rights to this field.
