Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met this evening with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and his accompanying delegation, where he affirmed support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate struggle against Israel. The Syrian News Agency (SANA) quoted Assad as emphasizing the "seriousness and bloodiness of what the occupying army is doing in bombing civilians in the Gaza Strip and displacing them," and the necessity for everyone to unite to halt the crimes perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian people using internationally prohibited weapons.
The Syrian president viewed that "the crimes and massacres being committed today by the occupying entity against the Palestinians are an attempt to pressure the Palestinian people to concede their legitimate rights,” asserting that “the continued denial of the Palestinian people's right to establish their independent state and live with dignity and freedom is the main reason for what is happening in the Palestinian territories today."
He stressed that "the region will not witness stability if the Zionist entity and Western countries continue this denial and attempt to erase this historical and humanitarian truth, and that the Zionist entity must implement international resolutions regarding withdrawal from the occupied territories." According to SANA, President Assad and Amir Abdollahian discussed "the developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and the dangerous Israeli escalation against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank," underscoring their commitment to "standing by the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people."
For his part, the Iranian foreign minister affirmed "the importance of intensifying international efforts to stop the crimes committed by the Zionist entity against the Palestinian people." Foreign Minister and Expatriates Faisal al-Miqdad stated that "the primary responsibility for the dangerous escalation in the region lies with 'Israel,' its continued occupation of Arab land, its disregard for the rights of the Palestinian people, and its criminal and aggressive practices against them."
During a press conference with his Iranian counterpart, al-Miqdad noted that "Israeli occupation forces have killed hundreds of Palestinians since the beginning of this year until shortly before the Al-Aqsa Flood, most of whom are children, and destroyed their homes over their heads," emphasizing that "the United States continues to support the Israeli killing policy, and there is no people in the world that has endured, suffered, and tolerated more than the Palestinian people."
He added, "The crimes of occupation against the Palestinian people are war crimes and crimes against humanity," pointing out that "European countries and the United States prevent food and medicine from reaching the Palestinian people, while the occupation destroys dozens of hospitals just as the Nazis did in World War II."
Faisal al-Miqdad went on to say, "The occupation targets Palestinians in the Gaza Strip with weapons of mass destruction, having killed hundreds of children only in the past few days," adding that "the greatest insult to international humanitarian law occurred in the last week due to the ongoing Israeli assaults against the Palestinian people." He indicated that "the assaults of the occupation do not only target the West Bank and Gaza Strip but encompass the entire region, and Israel must bear responsibility for that," reiterating "Syria's steadfast position is always to stand with the Palestinian people until they liberate their land and establish their independent state."
For his part, Abdullahian stated: "I met President Bashar al-Assad and held very important discussions regarding the recent developments in Palestine and the Israeli occupation's attacks against children." He added, “Syria is always on the front lines of the resistance axis and plays a fundamental role in supporting Palestine.”
Abdullahian explained that "the Zionist entity covers up its defeat against the Palestinian resistance by bombing civilians and children and women in the Gaza Strip, committing acts of genocide against them," warning "those who instigate wars against women and children in Gaza that they must stop their war crimes before it is too late." He pointed out that "Gaza urgently needs global support to lift the siege imposed by the Israeli occupation and to stop the war crimes it is committing against its people."
