A New Zealand court issued its ruling on a strange and amusing case involving a woman and her boyfriend "and two dogs." The woman filed a lawsuit against her boyfriend for failing to take her to the airport, which caused her to miss a concert and delayed her travel by a day, according to the British newspaper "The Guardian."
The woman told the New Zealand disputes court that she had been in a relationship with the man for six and a half years until the disagreement arose. According to the court order issued on Thursday, the woman had arranged to attend a concert with some friends, and her partner had agreed to take her to the airport and stay at her home to care for her dogs during her absence.
She stated that she had made a "verbal contract" with her partner, stipulating that he would take her to the airport and look after her dogs. The woman messaged her boyfriend the day before her travel, but he did not respond, according to the lawsuit, leading to her missing her flight.
Additionally, the plaintiff paid for ferry tickets for herself and her boyfriend for another holiday with her children, and she claimed in her lawsuit that she should be compensated for the cost of his ticket. However, the court stated that "for the agreement to be enforceable, there must be an intention to create a legally binding relationship."
The judge dismissed the woman's lawsuit, stating that "the promise does not rise to the level of a contract. It is part of the agreements of daily domestic and familial relationships, which cannot be adjudicated in the disputes court." After the court's decision, the defendant sent an email stating that he would not attend the remaining sessions and did not respond to a follow-up call from the court.
