Ali Jassim: An Iraqi Talent Led by Fabregas in the Italian League

The Italian club Como has finalized the contract with rising Iraqi football talent Ali Jassim, who plays for the Electricity team. Renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on his social media account that Jassim is currently undergoing medical examinations in France in preparation for his transfer to Como. The transfer contract for Ali Jassim to Como will be signed as soon as an agreement is reached with his club, Electricity. Spanish player Cesc Fabregas will lead Como in the Italian league after guiding the team back to the competition for the first time since 2003 in the previous season.

Ali Jassim recently rose to prominence during the AFC U-23 Asian Cup, where the Iraqi national team, known as the "Babylonians," secured third place behind Japan and Uzbekistan. Jassim was awarded the tournament's top scorer title, netting four goals against Tajikistan, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

**Who is Ali Jassim?**

Born in Baghdad, Iraq, on January 20, 2004, Ali Jassim began his football journey with the Oil team in youth stages. He later played for Al-Karkh in 2018, which marked his breakout point when he made his debut in the Iraqi league against Al-Zawraa on November 3, 2018. Subsequently, Jassim played for Al-Police and Electricity, had a stint with Turkish club Antalyaspor in 2023, and then returned to Electricity. Additionally, he played on loan for Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya in 2023 from Electricity.

Ali Jassim has represented the Iraqi national team in 12 matches, scoring two goals against Indonesia and Vietnam in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Last season, he scored 14 goals in 39 matches with Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya. His transfer to the Italian league will be his first step into the world of major European leagues. Previously, he was close to joining Belgian club Genk after his impressive performance with the Iraqi U-20 team, but the deal did not go through before his summer transfer to Antalyaspor.
