An Iraqi security source revealed today, Wednesday, the circumstances of the crime in Al-Abbasiyah, north of Samarra in Salah al-Din province. The source stated that "according to preliminary information, a father and four of his sons were killed in their home in the Al-Abbasiyah area north of Samarra under mysterious circumstances in a horrific crime that is the first of its kind in a safe and quiet area in a long time." The source added that "a wide security cordon has been imposed in Al-Abbasiyah as a precautionary measure, while high-ranking security leaders in Baghdad directed the Samarra police to open an immediate investigation to uncover the circumstances of what happened and present a report on the reasons."
He noted that "it is too early to speculate on the motives for the crime," while adding, "However, there are relentless efforts to determine the identity of the perpetrators and their motives, especially since what occurred is a horrific crime that sparked public outrage in Samarra and other Iraqi cities."
Earlier today, a security source reported the killing of a family consisting of five people in Salah al-Din province. The source said that "gunmen wearing military uniforms opened fire on a family comprised of five people from the same household after storming their home in Al-Abbasiyah in Samarra." He added that "the attack resulted in the death of all of them," noting that "the gunmen fled to an unknown location."
