Fake news acts as a double-edged sword, spreading at lightning speed through social media. Its proliferation relies on deception and camouflage, operating on the principle of distorting, fabricating, or attempting to change facts.
In response, many global media outlets have established dedicated sites to verify and expose fake news. In Lebanon, the National Council for Scientific Research, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO, launched a series of training sessions on scientific media coverage titled "Misleading Scientific Information: Advanced Research, Identifying Sources, and Presenting Scientific Material."
However, the core problem remains that the intensity and speed of fake news dissemination exceed the capacity of media institutions to comprehensively track it. Therefore, before you choose to share any news, slow down... scrutinize... and verify, to avoid falling prey to fake news!
