Middle East on Edge: Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain Confirm Intercepting Iranian Missiles

Following U.S. strikes along the Iranian coast and subsequent Iranian attempts to target military sites in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, the Jordanian Armed Forces confirmed today the interception and downing of five missiles fired from Iran towards the Azraq base.

The military statement noted that debris fell after the interception, with no reported injuries or damage.

Defense Against "Hostile Targets"

Similarly, the Kuwaiti army announced that its air defenses repelled "hostile aerial targets." The General Staff of the Army stated that "Kuwaiti air defense systems intercepted hostile aerial targets following approved operational procedures."

The military urged everyone to adhere to security and safety instructions from relevant authorities.

In Bahrain, sirens wailed following Tehran's declaration of targeting the kingdom in retaliation for recent U.S. strikes. The Bahraini Interior Ministry urged citizens and residents to seek safe areas.

"Interception of All Missiles"

Concurrently, a U.S. official indicated that initial assessments suggested nearly all Iranian missiles and drones were intercepted. He noted, "We have no knowledge of injuries among U.S. forces or damage to U.S. sites at this time," as reported by Reuters.

He added that the U.S. targeted around 20 sites in Iran.

Conversely, the Revolutionary Guard vowed a "swift and decisive response to any further U.S. attacks."

These developments followed U.S. airstrikes on Iranian coastal regions late Tuesday, after President Donald Trump announced Iran had downed a U.S. Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions and raising doubts over the fragile ceasefire.

The U.S. military statement on "X" declared targeting Iranian air defenses, ground control stations, and radar monitoring sites near the Strait of Hormuz, describing the operation as a "proportional response" to the latest attacks on U.S. forces and commercial vessels.

The strikes ended hours later, targeting Qeshm Island, Sirik coastal city, and Jask county near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian media.

Explosions were reportedly heard in Bandar Abbas and later around Jask.

President Trump had mentioned the potential for a peace deal with Iran to end the conflict that erupted on February 28, while ongoing efforts by Pakistan aimed to bridge gaps.

However, the recent clashes cast uncertainty over the fate of these negotiations, despite U.S. officials asserting they remain unaffected.
