The Press Club has vehemently denounced the decision to imprison fellow journalist Rami Naeem for a month and to fine him one billion liras.
In a statement, the club commented: "The ruling affects the regime's reputation regarding the preservation of freedoms. It is noteworthy amid the relentless campaign against the President, lacking any judicial protection to uphold the state's laws and dignity.
Those who celebrated the decision unwittingly revealed their role in its issuance. It's beneficial that they celebrated, as it exposed their intentions and those behind them.
The club appeals to the President, the Minister of Justice, and the Minister of Information to take appropriate actions to safeguard press freedom against those who seize every opportunity to violate its sanctity.
The Press Club calls for the proper application of the law. Had the responsible authorities performed their duties, they would address thousands of cases before tackling the issue of colleague Rami Naeem."
