Kataeb Party: Hezbollah Evades War Responsibility by Targeting Government

The Kataeb political bureau convened a meeting chaired by party leader MP Sami Gemayel and issued a statement highlighting, "The political bureau addressed calls made by Hezbollah to topple the government, considering this a clear attempt to divert responsibility for the war witnessed in Lebanon under the slogan of 'support'. Instead, there is a demand for accountability for those who drew the country into a spiral of destruction, displacement, and killings, outside institutional frameworks and contrary to the constitution and the social contract among Lebanese people. The persistence of arms outside state authority cannot be accepted, as it has proven to be the primary obstacle to stability, the country's unity, and the state's full reclaiming of its role."

The statement added: "The political bureau considered the U.S.-Iran framework agreement, affirming that this agreement concerns only its two parties and does not relate to the Lebanese path, viewing it strictly as an understanding between Tehran and Washington. The political bureau emphasizes that Lebanon has no stake in any agreements that involve Lebanon, except those where the Lebanese state and its legitimately elected institutions, through officially designated representatives in Washington, engage. These efforts are critical for reclaiming sovereignty and independence, achieving Israeli withdrawal, halting aggression, and executing government decisions to restrict weaponry to the state and restore full security control."

Furthermore, the statement continued: "The political bureau calls upon the Lebanese state to entrust the comprehensive damage assessment process solely to legitimate institutions, primarily the Lebanese army, once a comprehensive ceasefire is confirmed. The government is urged, following a proposal by the Minister of Justice, to demand compensation from the Islamic Republic of Iran commensurate with the damages incurred from a war imposed on Lebanon with neither its interest nor its decision involved. Emphasizing that international aid or contributions for reconstruction or victim compensation should strictly be channeled through Lebanese state institutions."

In conclusion, the statement wished the Muslim community a happy Islamic New Year, hoping that this occasion brings more stability and peace to Lebanon and its people.
