Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri disclosed that Israel has requested a ceasefire, informing the 'Mechanism' committee overseeing the application of cessation of hostilities. His remarks to 'Asharq Al-Awsat' came on the eve of the fifth round of Lebanese-Israeli negotiations, which are sponsored by the U.S. State Department in Washington. Berri expressed his satisfaction with the efforts that led to the ceasefire, hoping it will endure, contingent on Israel's willingness to adhere to it, while 'Hezbollah' is committed as it's inappropriate to negotiate under fire pressure.
Berri affirmed his ongoing communication with President Jozef Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, noting, 'Although they have ideas different from mine, I don’t think there is a problem between us.'
