A 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck off the northern coast of Japan on Thursday, with no tsunami warnings issued by the authorities.
The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was off the coast of Iwate Prefecture, in northern Honshu Island, at a depth of 50 kilometers.
The Japanese government confirmed that, so far, there have been no reports of injuries or major damage. Authorities continue to assess the situation and monitor any potential repercussions.
Local media reported that life remained normal in the affected areas, with initial damage limited to minor incidents, such as items falling inside homes.
Japan is one of the most seismically active nations in the world, as it lies at the intersection of four major tectonic plates within the Pacific "Ring of Fire".
