In the early hours of Sunday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces conducted additional strikes following Iran's recent attack on a commercial ship.
CENTCOM stated that the strikes in Iran targeted military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, unmanned aircraft storage facilities, and naval mine-laying capabilities.
The statement from CENTCOM highlighted that these strikes were a response to an Iranian drone attack on the 'Kiko' tanker, which was Panamanian-flagged and carrying over two million barrels of crude oil near the Strait of Hormuz.
According to CENTCOM, commercial shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains stable.
A report from Axios quoted a U.S. official saying that the United States is conducting strikes in the Strait of Hormuz area.
The Iranian Broadcasting Authority reported that military sources attributed explosions near the city of Sirik to projectiles hitting a communication tower.
An Iranian military source also noted that several projectiles targeted a village on Qeshm Island.
The British Maritime Trade Operations agency reported receiving a notification Saturday about an incident targeting a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the agency, the tanker's captain reported the ship had been hit by an unknown projectile, causing damage to its hull.
The agency confirmed that all crew members are safe, and no reports of environmental damage have been received so far.
The agency did not disclose the identity of the ship or the entity responsible for the projectile launch.
CENTCOM had announced on Friday that the U.S. military launched raids on Iranian sites, including the bombing of Iranian missile and drone storage sites, as well as radar locations, following Tehran's attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
On the platform X, CENTCOM wrote: "The unjustified aggression against commercial shipping by Iranian forces clearly violated the ceasefire."
They noted that the strikes executed by the military were a strong response to Thursday's attack on a commercial ship traversing the Strait of Hormuz.
They emphasized that "forces remain present and vigilant to ensure full compliance and implementation of all terms of the Iranian agreement."
Iranian media reported that a projectile fell near a marine dock area in the southern Iranian city of Sirik on Friday.
The media outlets, citing military sources, mentioned that warning shots were fired hours before Friday towards "violating ships" in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated in a release that American forces attacked Sirik Island and that Iran countered the assault.
Iran considered on Saturday that the U.S. strikes on its territory Friday constituted a "blatant violation" of the memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the Middle East conflict between the two countries.
In response to U.S. strikes, official Iranian media reported Saturday that Iran attacked American sites.
The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned in the strongest terms the targeting of its territory at dawn on Saturday by several Iranian drones.
