Lebanese Cabinet Approves Klayaat Airport Licenses and New Administrative Appointments

The Lebanese Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam at the government headquarters, has approved licenses for regular air transport at President Rene Mouawad Airport (Klayaat), alongside a series of administrative appointments within various official institutions.

Following the session, Information Minister Paul Morcos announced the Cabinet's approval of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport's request to grant licenses for regular air transport at Klayaat Airport. This move aims to activate the airport, bolster its economic and developmental role, and alleviate pressure on Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport.

The Cabinet also appointed:

Ziad Samkya as Head of the Electricity Regulatory Authority.
Mazen Al-Khatib as Director General of Higher Education.
Mohammad Shatila as Head of the Beirut International Airport Corporation.

The session, chaired by Salam, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri, ministers, Director General of the Presidency Antoine Choucair, and Cabinet Secretary General Mahmoud Makiya.

The agenda included several key issues, notably the activation of Klayaat Airport, the purchase of prefabricated houses for those affected by Israeli attacks, judicial agreements with Morocco, financial and administrative files, the organization of the Ministry of Telecommunications, appointments in various public administrations and institutions, as well as a Chinese donation of 50 million yuan for supplying municipalities with equipment and machinery.

Before the session, Interior Minister Ahmed Al-Hajar stated that around 600 buildings in Tripoli are at risk of collapse, with efforts focused on providing alternative housing for the affected. He added that the Lebanese government is exerting all efforts to maintain regional stability and security, emphasizing the continuation of negotiations.

Public Works Minister Faiz Rasamni mentioned that work is underway with the Syrian side to reopen all border crossings between Lebanon and Syria.
